Simone Guthrie

BURLINGTON, Ont. (05/17/2015) - Sports have been a major part of Simone Guthrie’s life since the age of 5. Guthrie felt there was not enough emotional connection to any of these sports until the day she set foot into her old school garage style bodybuilding gym. Her father who frequented the gym showed her the ropes and the ways of the gym world. After the birth of her second daughter, Simone became disabled with chronic back and sciatic pain and was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease having her L3, L4, and L5 all deteriorated. Once Guthrie got the go ahead to resume training from her specialist, nothing could stop her. It led her to train for the stage in 2011 and again in 2013 where she competed with the Ontario a Physique Association placing 1st overall in her hometown of Waterloo at the Oktoberfest Natural Classic, and 1st place in Ottawa in women’s physique. Guthrie is set to step on stage for Provincials and the out to earn her Pro Card at Nationals at the end of August. Photo by Alicia Wynter/Athlete Assist
